With his video clip “Recall” shot at his home in full confinement, Vald, the rapper from Aulnay-Sous-Bois, hit a big blow.
Where some spend several thousand euros, the artist was satisfied with a “home” video. But this is where Vald makes all the difference, thanks to artistic choices marked by a real guideline.
Leverage containment
Confined like everyone else, he did not twiddle his thumbs and chose to highlight his routine on video. We discover it in his living room, in front of his TV, in his kitchen with a bunch of fast food wrappers and even with her son at the end of the clip for a heartwarming moment. A choice without coherent artifice for a song that describes the hardships of life.
But then how did Vald break through? Well the rapper from Seine-Saint-Denis had his first buzz with in mixtape «NQNT» released in 2015 and its famous track “Hello”. After “NQNT 2”, he then spun from success to success with his albums “Agartha” and “Xeu”, both certified platinum discs. His album “Ce monde est cruel” also obtains the same certification while showing even more explicitly its political dimension.
The starting punchline of “Recall” sums up the tone of the album well:
Neither food nor accommodation is free, I think that I said it all ”.
“My best album”
Arrived on Twitch during lockdown, Vald announced during a live with Itaa95 on the platform he was preparing “his best album”. He also said he was working on a exclusivity : “A sound that will speak about footballers”. The “young poet”, as Marc Lavoine described it in The Voice, therefore still has a bright future ahead.
