30 Audi electrified
Audi has big short-term ambitions in the field of electrification and plans to market 30 models by 2015, of which twenty with a purely electric engine. The goal, after launching thee-tron in 2018 and thee-tron Sportback this year is to cover all automotive segments. For this, the brand with the rings can count on the group’s four dedicated platforms Volkswagen : the MLB Evo for the first two mentioned above, the J1 for the GT planned for 2021, the PPE for family and luxury sedans and the MEB for compact vehicles, such as the SUV Q4 e-tron Concept presented to Geneva Motor Show in 2019 and its coupe version unveiled today, the Q4 e-tron Sportback Concept.
The newcomer, 4.60 m long, therefore ticks all the boxes in vogue of the moment: SUV coupe and electric. We find the typical Single Frame grille of the brand in a closed but textured version and surrounded by a black mask. On both sides, the headlights offer a customizable light signature from a smartphone. For the wings housing the gigantic wheels pushed back at the four corners, Audi reuses the square shoulders of the Quattro of the 80s. Only 1.60 m high, the roof line is very low with a windshield that starts very in front of the hood, the latter stretching on the sides until it reaches the mirrors. At the rear, we find the strip of fire over the entire width, now part of the brand’s essential aesthetics, but the originality comes from a fin whose layout, dictated by wind tunnel tests, is at the bezel base.
The Audi Q4 Sportback e-tron receives an original spoiler at the base of its rear window.
Thanks to a wheelbase of 2.77 m and the absence of a transmission tunnel, the passenger compartment gives pride of place to habitability with, we are promised, a beautiful legroom at the front and at the rear , and let’s also hope a little to the head. The trunk meanwhile would be of a volume equivalent to that of the Q5, so around 550 liters. The dashboard with its sleek design houses a new generation head-up display as well as digital instrumentation.
The interior, sleek and spacious.
For the mechanical part, the Audi Q4 Sportback e-tron is logically the twin of its SUV version: the 82 kWh battery, which can fill up with electrons at 80% in 30 minutes thanks to a charge of up to 125 kW, is in the floor and there is an engine per wheel train for the quattro version, developing a total of 306 hp and 310 Nm. The 0 to 100 km / h is announced in 6.3 s and the maximum speed is limited to 180 km / h. The announced autonomy is 450 km. Another version with a single electric motor at the rear will also be offered and it can exceed 500 km on a single charge.
The production version will be launched in 2021.
