Video of “Perra”, a song by J Balvin, is removed from YouTube due to sexist and misogynistic messages – Metro World News

After the controversy that arose with the video for the song “Perra”, by J Balvin in collaboration with Tokischa, it was decided to heed the calls for attention and the YouTube material was removed.

What happened to the video?

The controversy began when the vice president of Colombia, Marta Lucía Ramírez, and the presidential advisor for Women’s Equity, Gheidy Gallo Santos, published an open letter addressed to José, the singer’s real name.

In this document, they expressed their concern about the messages that were embodied in the music video.

“In his video, the artist uses images of women and people of African descent – population groups with special constitutional protection – whom he presents with dog ears. In addition, while walking, the singer carries two Afro-descendant women tied with neck chains and crawling on the floor like animals or slaves. As if this were not enough, the lyrics of the song have direct and open sexist, racist, macho and misogynistic expressions that violate the rights of women, comparing them to an animal that must be dominated and mistreated, with expressions that are not worth repeating ” says a fragment of the letter.

They even asked the artist to be part of a pact in which he committed himself to promoting the rights of women in music and preventing violence against them.

It should be noted that Balvin never responded to the request of the vice president of Colombia.

J Balvin’s video reactions

In social networks, many criticisms of the artist arose due to the situations reflected in the video clip.

In one of the controversial scenes, two women are wearing dog necklaces, ears and nose while J Balvin walks with them tied by two leashes.

Who downloaded it?

There is still doubt about who withdrew the material from the YouTube platform, because while a part of the public believes that it was the same streaming company, others think that it was J Balvin’s team.

But neither the singer nor the platform have issued any statement.

It is worth mentioning that a video is still available only with the audio of the musical theme, which has more than 700 thousand views.

And he has received thousands of comments, highlighting José’s bad decision to produce material full of macho and misogynistic messages.

These are some of the messages you have received:

  • “Congratulations, José. Your mother must be satisfied with the gentleman of a son she has. I hope you dedicate this jewel to your mother and your sister; your niece is still little, but when she grows up she will feel proud to hear this beautiful poetry made into a song that you put out inspired by them ”.
  • “If you wanted to make fun of Rene’s criticism by speaking of your music as a ‘hot dog’ (even singing your song on top of a car), you were right to show it so literally. In this way, you failed to interpret his words … you have the talent not to have talent ”.
  • “Thank you, J Balvin, for inspiring me, now I study as much as I can to not be like you.”
  • “How could you think this would be a mega hit!”
