VIDEO: Listen to the penultimate song of Jarek Nohavica’s new album Say Cheese

The new album contains fifteen original songs, in which Jarek Nohavica reaffirmed what has been known about him for years: he is a great poet with original poetics, who can even reach out to listeners as a preacher and creates small musical gems with his unmistakable melody. All this accompanied by “only” acoustic guitars and accordions.

It is difficult to say whether to call this album “balance”, although the truth is that Jarek Nohavica returns to his folk beginnings in it. Already the title song Mama gave me the key to my neck is very emotional in terms of lyrics. We feel nostalgia in her, but also nobility, with which she can cope with the departure of her mother, as well as with the death of her friend Emil P (Song of Emil P).

Opus Dedicated the Day Hates Night to Karel Hynek Mácha and also paid tribute to his great poetic role model (song for VV). He also remembers his ancient loves (Monika), past years (Good Old Times) he dedicated the song We Are Old, to his beloved wife Martina, and to his father again.

The songwriter is able to gloss and aptly name some phenomena, situations in which we have lived or still live, including the computer age (Wolves, Orders or Say Cheese). I have a feeling that the lyrics on the new CD are as if more relaxed, playful, you can feel a certain joy of the author’s rhymes.

The album has an excellent dramaturgical structure, it looks very compact as a whole, the final song Dobří holubi carries a certain hope, although overall the album is not very optimistic. The CD Mom gave me the key to my neck was created under the supervision of music director Michal Pekárek and the minimalist cover underlining its atmosphere is from the workshop of Aleš Najbrt. Just for fun: a photo of little Jarek Nohavica on the cover was taken years ago by his father.

Jarek Nohavica’s new act My mother gave me the key to her neck is definitely one of the top domestic albums that have been recorded in our country in recent years.

Jarek’s hit performed by pupils from Most

As long as it is sung, it is not dead. That is why the pupils and teachers of ZUŠ FL Gassmann in Most decided to record and sing a video of the song of the same name, a hit by Jarek Nohavica. Listen to him and judge for yourself how they did:
