VIDEO: “In the animal park like a horror”; visitors raise an alarm about the sightseeing in Dundaga

During Covid-19, more and more families go on trips, seeing nature and tourism objects here in our Latvia. One of the destinations is an animal park in Kurzeme, where visitors not only looked at the animals, but also noticed that – not everyone looks so healthy and nice.

As reported show “Without Taboos”, many residents are worried about animal welfare in the park in Dundaga.

“Please help. I don’t know where to go and who to write to. I visited the exotic animal park in Dundaga. I was shocked by the condition of the animals and their condition. I didn’t see any dishes with drinking water, although the heat outside was close to 30 degrees, “said Jana.

Tatjana also expressed her concern: “My family and I visited Dundaga’s exotic animal park and were very outraged that the animals were in a terrible condition. I don’t understand how others praise their Facebook page. The side of a pony is also torn. Llamas, alpacas have grown, even the foil has grown in the wool! The camel has not been cared for, all the wool has rotted in. Why should children see torn wounds??! we told the employee that the zebra had a terrible leg, but she said with a smile that she knew. I understand that this is a business, but such an attitude is not normal for animals! “

Arriving in Dundaga, the journalists pretended to be visitors to the park, so that first of all, no one could see the condition of the animals. It should be noted that there are several fenced aviaries and enclosures in the fenced area, but most of the animals walk open in step with people – employees and visitors.

Injuries are noticed not only for the already mentioned zebra, but also for the dear sow. Flies are already scarred. The camel behind the log fence also seems to have entered an unpleasant incident and suffered scars. But the other two brothers are then resting under the roof of a freely accessible building. In the area we also see sheep, ostriches, eagles, chickens and many other animals. It’s hard not to notice the alpaca with a really bushy coat mentioned by the viewer.

The employee of the animal park points out that the animals are injured themselves, run somewhere, run into or fight, and this is normal. He also points out that the park staff is treating the animals.

The addressed animal park visitor admits that the largest and strongest animals outdo the physically weaker residents. “We also got the impression that maybe they were going to buy their food for the animals and that they were not being fed specifically in addition.”

The owner of the animal park also arrives soon, who confirms that if there are serious problems with animal health, veterinarians are called. This is the fourth year that the animal park has been available to tourists.

Ivars Koloda, the head of the North Kurzeme administration of the FVS, explains: “We also go to them from time to time and check them. It counts like an animal shed. in connection with the fact that the domestic pigs were grazing outside, if that can’t be, that they have to be indoors. Then at the moment, these photos that you sent us did not reach us. “

Due to African swine fever, it is currently forbidden to keep rams in the open together with other animals. Iveta Laukšteina, the owner of the exotic animal park, says: “I am offended because I take care of the animals in the best, the best, as much as I can, as much as possible. There are two hands…”

She points out that the pars will not only continue to operate, but it is also planned to expand.

After repeated contact with the FVS, we find out that the veterinarian practicing in the animal park has informed the FVS about the situation in the animal park, as well as issued the necessary medicines for wound care to the owners of the park. The FVS’s unplanned visit has not yet taken place.
