The Prime Minister Florin Cîţu announced, on Monday, before the meeting of the governing coalition, that he will propose to discuss the abolition of the Section for the Investigation of Crimes in Justice, having concrete proposals in this regard. “If the opinion of the Venice Commission is fully taken into account, we have the solution to get out of this temporary stalemate,” the prime minister said, according to news.ro.
“Today I will put on the agenda the abolition of SIIJ, because it is very important for me and for the efficient functionality of the public justice service for citizens the abolition of this public service. Mrs. Iulia Scântei will be with me. We come up with a proposal – the Minister of Justice asked for the opinion of the Venice Commission in the spring, an opinion that is very good, but many aspects of that opinion were not discussed in the public space. We believe that, if the opinion of the Venice Commission is fully taken into account, we have the solution to get out of this temporary stalemate we are in. We will come today, together with Mrs. Scântei with a solution on the coalition table “, declared, on Monday, the prime minister Florin Cîţu.
In his turn, Senator Iulia Scântei explained that the proposals they will present to the coalition aim at solving the problem, respecting the commitments made.
“We remain consistent with the project adopted by the Government, under the leadership of the Prime Minister, regarding the two major objectives – the abolition in this parliamentary session of the Special Section and the unequivocal observance of the material competence of the Romanian prosecutor’s offices,” Scântei said.
