Video: A war of drones rages over Nagorno-Karabakh

In an interview with a foreign newspaper, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pasinjan accused Turkey of supporting the Azerbaijani army in the fight for Nagorno-Karabakh with drones and other military equipment.

Azerbaijan, in an effort to occupy this disputed area, is increasingly using remote-controlled aircraft to attack Armenian positions. The fleet of Azerbaijani drones, for example, includes the Bayraktar TB3, which is an unmanned aircraft made in Turkey. This country is considered one of the world’s most important manufacturers of drones.

“Turkey has gained a great deal of experience in combining the design and production of advanced drones. I would say that it has reached the level of China or the United States, for example, “says Turkish aviation expert Arda Mevlutoglu.

According to him, Turkey has already deployed its drones in the conflicts in Syria, Iraq and Libya. “Military drones – electronic warfare systems – have helped Turkey pursue a stronger foreign and security policy. It is increasingly relying on its technological lead, “adds the Turkish expert.

And it is the drone-led attacks that are partly responsible for the escalation of the fighting in Nagorno-Karabakh, during which hundreds of people have already died.

Evidence of this is also the fact that Canada has frozen Turkey’s sales of important components for their production.

“We still can’t make engines and of course we don’t have the capacity to make chips, so all the software in these drones, or in other weapons, has to be imported from the West or China,” said Turkish political scientist Atilla Yesilada.

The use of combat drones was also discussed by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, who said in a recent television interview that it was thanks to drones that human losses had been reduced on the part of his country. And they also showed the strength that Turkey has, and thanks to which Azerbaijan is stronger, according to him.

The use of drones is nothing new in the conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh. Azerbaijan used them as early as 2016. Yerevan believes that the enemy’s armament includes, for example, Israeli drones Harop Kamikadze, as well as Russian drones.

In contrast, according to experts, Armenia itself has very few similar armaments. It is believed that it uses drones only for reconnaissance flights.
