– I want to play. It has been tough, says the Djurgården attacker cryptically.
Elfsborg had 1–0 in the middle of the second half at home against Djurgården. Then Kim Bergstrand and Thomas Lagerlöf threw in Victor Edvardsen on the left wing in the 63rd minute.
Ten minutes later, the striker poked home the final score at 1-1 after Joel Asoro lobbed the ball over the onrushing Elfsborg goalkeeper.
But it was the third game in a row that Edvardsen started on the bench. There have been only six starts in 12 rounds for the 27-year-old.
“Trying to do my job”
How do you see your position in the ranking in Djurgården?
– I don’t know that myself, to be honest. I try to do my job every day and contribute as much as I can, regardless of whether I’m on the side or if I get to play, says Edvardsen.
– But it is no secret that it has been tough and that I have not reached the level that I can maintain. I’ve jumped into the last few games and scored two goals on it. I have something to build on.
In recent days, there has been a lot of buzz in the transfer and silly world that Edvardsen is on his way back “home” to IFK Göteborg.
– I cannot comment on that. I am a Djurgården player until the day something else happens. I enjoy the club. It’s a family club that takes care of me both on and off the pitch.
– I’m not complaining at all. But it’s clear, I play football because I want to play.
Six points up to Elfsborg
After the equalizer against Elfsborg, he ran towards the big Djugårdenklacken, grabbed the club emblem on the shirt and hit himself on the chest.
Should it be taken as a clear signal that it is Djurgården that applies to you in the future?
– I do not know. But the people standing there support me regardless of whether I play or not and they have done that since I came here. It’s my job to celebrate with them. They haven’t done anything to me. Then you can interpret the other as you wish.
What do you really want?
– I want to play football. As simple as that.
So a club that guarantees you more playing time than Djurgården is better suited?
– I do not know. You can take that with Kallbäck, my agent. I am Djurgårdsplayer. I will do everything for us to win matches as long as I get to play, says Victor Edvardsen.
The cross means that Djurgården remains six points ahead of Elfsborg at the top of the Allsvenskan. But Dif is said to be fighting for Allsvenskan medals and later this summer the European qualifiers await.
After 0–1 at home against Mjällby on Saturday, IFK Göteborg has four points up to above the qualifying mark.
So we’ll see if Victor Edvardsen fights at the bottom or the top of the Allsvenskan in the autumn?
– We’ll have to see, he says.
