Dávila Claims Polls Show De La Espriella Would Lose in Presidential Runoff, Favored by Political Opponents
BOGOTÁ – Political analyst Vicky Dávila asserted that current polling data indicates presidential candidate Abelardo de la Espriella would be defeated in a potential second-round matchup against any competitor, specifically highlighting a consistent loss to Iván Cepeda in surveys. Dávila made the comments during a Noticias Caracol segment, suggesting de la Espriella’s perceived weakness makes him a strategically desirable opponent for those opposing the current political landscape.
“Abelardo de la Espriella loses in the second round in all the polls. It is a reality. That is why Abelardo de la Espriella is the candidate that Petrism would like the most that would reach the second round,” Dávila stated. she further posited that political factions would likely leverage any available damaging information about de la Espriella should he advance to a runoff, potentially harming Colombia as a whole.
Dávila expressed concern that opponents would unveil previously held complaints and accusations against de la Espriella during a second-round campaign. “When they get to second grade, they will take out all the complaints, everything that they have kept from him, and then they screw all of us Colombians. Cepeda stays, who is a danger for Colombia,” she predicted.
The analysis comes as Colombia prepares for upcoming presidential elections, with various candidates vying for a place in a potential second round. De la Espriella, a lawyer, is among those seeking the nation’s highest office.
