VI: Dutch clubs are at ‘first crossroads’ in BeNeLiga discussion

The top clubs from the Netherlands will soon provide more news about a possible foundation of the BeNeLiga. The six teams that took the initiative (Ajax, PSV, AZ, Feyenoord, FC Utrecht and Vitesse) updated various organizations within football.

That reports Football International. In the conversation, in which the other Dutch professional clubs, the Second Division, the supporters’ collective and the unions of trainers, players and referees were involved, various points were discussed. Ajax, PSV, AZ, Feyenoord and Vitesse have not yet expressed their opinion about a possible BeNeLiga, FC Utrecht owner Frans van Seumeren is positive.

The Belgian clubs seem to think positively about a BeNeLiga. Research agency Deloitte previously sketched a picture that a joint competition would be ‘significantly increasing value’, also for clubs that are not allowed to participate. However, calculations show that this is not the case.

VI states that a ‘first crossroads’ is approaching: do the top clubs shoot a merger with the Jupiler Pro League, or do they find it interesting enough to continue? In any case, five sixths of the Eredivisie clubs must agree to the setting up of a BeNeLiga.
