VHP faction clear about position in charge statement Adhin – Suriname Herald

The faction of the Progressive Reform Party (VHP) is of the opinion that the judiciary should be given the space to investigate all criminal cases. They are also continuing this line in the case in which Attorney General Roy Baidjnath Panday yesterday filed a claim with the National Assembly (DNA) to indict former Vice President Ashwin Adhin. That said VHP party leader Asiskumar Gajadien, in conversation with Suriname Herald.

He indicated that he can certainly speak on behalf of the VHP faction. According to the Public Prosecution Service (OM), the procedure of indicting DNA must be started. The claim lists criminal offenses, as the criminal investigation has shown, says the OM in a press release. The Public Prosecution Service asks that DNA decides on the prosecution of ex-vice president Adhin.

Area of Judiciary
“I think that we in parliament will have to continue to follow the line that we have always followed and to give the judiciary the opportunity to investigate everything and to be able to prosecute. And if it turns out as Mr. Adhin claims he is innocent, it will show up, ”Gajadien emphasizes.

He indicates that Adhin himself has indicated that there is a constitutional state. The faction of the governing coalition also believes in the rule of law and if prosecution is initiated, it must cooperate, says the group leader.

Vice President Ronnie Brunswijk has previously indicated to the STVS news that this case is not such a difficult case and that it can be handled out of trial. Responding to this, Gajadien says that he has not yet studied the claim and cannot say anything about the content, but that space must be left to the judiciary at all times.

Class justice
The VHP topper will also not cooperate with a possible request from politicians. Even if discussions are held at that level, they will not influence the position of the politician. “I am not in favor of class justice. If people have made a mistake, it must be reflected and that is what we go for. Let it be a lesson that people do not mess with the interests of that society, that they do not just destroy government property and that they adhere to law and justice, ”says Gajadien.

It is not yet known when the claim will be handled. In any case, the Public Prosecution Service will be given the opportunity to prosecute, if it is up to the VHP fraction.
