Essen. VfL Bochum is in the quarter-finals of the DFB Cup for the first time since 2016. Now the fans are waiting for the draw and the next fixtures.

the VfL Bochum made it to a quarterfinals for the first time since 2016 DFB-Pokal done: The team coached by Thomas Reis defeated their league rivals FSV Mainz 05 3-1 (0-1) on Tuesday. Milos Pantovic scored twice in the round of 16 success, Eduard Löwen scored the third goal.
Now the Bochum fans can look forward to January 30th. The quarter-finals will be drawn during the ARD sports show. There are four Bundesliga clubs and four second division clubs in the pot.
Leipzig, Freiburg and Union Berlin will be there
In addition to Bochum, RB Leipzig, SC Freiburg and Union Berlin have qualified. None of the clubs have yet won a title in the DFB Cup.

Among the second division teams there are three clubs that have already triumphed in the final. the Karlsruhe SC won the DFB Cup in 1955 and 1956. the Hamburger SV was able to celebrate a victory in the final in 1963, 1976 and 1987. And the players of Hannover 96 lifted the trophy in the Berlin Olympic Stadium in 1992. the FC St. Pauli completes the field of second division clubs, Hamburg have not yet won the DFB Cup.
Quarterfinals on March 1st and 2nd
When the quarter-finals have been drawn, the game dates fixed. The games will be played on March 1st and 2nd. VfL Bochum will probably play on March 2nd. The reason is the Bundesliga schedule. The Bundesliga game against RB Leipzig is on Sunday, February 27th.
Should Bochum survive this round as well, they would have to play again on April 19th or 20th. The semifinals are scheduled for these two days.

Bochum can also hope for the biggest game in German football. Since record winner Bayern Munich and defending champion Borussia Dortmund have already been eliminated, the chances of reaching the final are greater than ever. The final will take place in Berlin on May 21, 2022.
The Bochum team last reached the final in 1988. Back then, coach Hermann Gerland’s team lost to Eintracht Frankfurt 1-0. The Hungarian Lajos Detari destroyed the title dream of Bochum (fs) with his goal.
