VfB Stuttgart in need! Way out in sight?

In addition to fear of relegation, VfB Stuttgart also has major financial worries. Is there a way out now?

From a sporting point of view, because the club is wintering on the relegation zone after the last-minute bankruptcy at 1. FC Köln.

Financially, because the pandemic drastically worsened the situation on Mercedesstrasse.

Since Corona, there has been talk of a loss of sales of 80 million euros so far and it is increasing.

Because there is no end in sight to the ghost games, so VfB cannot expect ticket income for the time being.

A player sale could provide short-term relief, after all, the winter transfer period is coming up!

But Stuttgart is in a dilemma here: Only current top performers could flush the necessary money into the coffers, which in turn would drastically increase the risk of a third relegation within six years.

Sporting director Sven Mislintat (49) said: “The club representatives have Christmas now and will then certainly look into their transfer funds to see what is possible.”

But the 49-year-old does not expect crazy offers.

Instead of selling players, a new investor would make more sense in the long term anyway.

As the Stuttgart newspaper reported, the VfB should be largely in agreement with a donor. It is not yet known who is behind it. At least it’s not Bregal. Hitzlsperger is said to have canceled the Bavarian financial investor by SMS in May.

But: Stuttgart is aiming to present the new investor as early as January. Lawyers are currently reviewing the contracts. This would put the coup on the head of still boss Thomas Hitzlsperger (39), who will leave the club by autumn at the latest.

After all the trouble about his person, the presentation of a new investor could still ensure a conciliatory departure from Hitzlsperger.
