Sarah De Bie, the wife of Wout van Aert, shined on Friday evening with her round belly in her evening dress. She politely declined a corona-proof bottle of champagne from a clumsy employee. In the week after New Year, she and her Flandrien are expecting their first child.

“It’s getting really close now,” Sarah smiled. “If I have given birth, I will probably miss it. But I’m really counting down. I have gestational diabetes and that makes a lot of sense. It is a very active baby. I am so curious what it looks like. ”

He – Sarah and Wout announced the gender to the world two months ago – is affectionately called “Our Fund” mentioned. “We try to use that name consistently. Otherwise, the risk that we will reveal the real name is too great. ”

Fund is already a lively guy. “We could have expected that. Wout is super active, I am sporty. It could not be otherwise that Fons was an asset bazeke would become. But I just like that. I hope it will be a sporty child. ”

Fortunately, Sarah has received a lot of help from her husband in recent weeks after the road season ended. “Wout is very caring. For example, he rubs my stomach against the welts every day. For the time being I don’t have one yet, that will be due to Wout’s magical hands. Sometimes Wout is even a bit too concerned and I have to tell him that I will be fine. ”

Sarah could probably use some help at home next week, because a significant part of the birth list will already arrive. “A service from the baby shop where we put our list. The cot and the crib are already ready, next week we will dress everything. Our dog Lio has a bit of a problem with it. When I grab cuddly toys for the baby, she is jealous that they are not for her. ”

Despite the round belly, Sarah is going to Kortrijk today for Wout’s first cyclo-cross. “But I’m not going to Tabor. That journey is too hard. Whether I still go to the cross in the weeks that follow depends on how I feel. The gynecologist should certainly not force me. ”
