Verviers: man shot dead at home

A 27-year-old Verviétois was shot dead at his home, Place Sommeleville, on the night of Thursday to Friday, said Gilles de Villers Grand Champs, Procureur du Roi de Liège, Verviers division. The victim was shot twice, causing his death.

The facts took place around 4.15 am. A witness who heard gunshots from his neighbor’s home immediately warned the Vesdre area. The police discovered, on arriving at the scene, an inanimate body, at the entrance of an apartment, lying on the ground in a pool of blood.

However, a witness was able to inform the investigators about the report of a suspect. The latter was intercepted around 5.30 a.m. He is a 30-year-old Verviétois arrested near his home. His hearing was conducted Friday afternoon by the judicial service of the Vesdre area in charge of the file.

Many duties are currently in progress both in terms of scientific analysis, hearings, research via camera images. But, according to the first elements of the investigation and on the basis of the first forensic and ballistic findings made on the spot, the victim seems to have been shot twice. A first wound at the level of the left arm and a second at the top of the thorax and the head were thus noted. In all likelihood, this last injury was the cause of death. The autopsy, performed late Friday afternoon, should corroborate this thesis. An investigating judge was seized. The case was brought to trial Friday morning. The suspect, who has no criminal record, must answer, depending on the charges against him, to assassination. The public prosecutor’s office requested that he be put under this warrant by the investigating judge, who will hear the 30-year-old at the end of the day.
