Colombian defender Richard Renteria (25), a Guaraní footballer, has a well-defined goal; that of obtaining a title with the aurinegra institution, leaving its stamp. He arrived this season at the Dos Bocas institution with his compatriot Guillermo Tegüe, who also plays central.
In a talk with VERSUS, he commented on his first experience outside his country and his good relationship with his fellow countryman Devis Vásquez, a goalkeeper who has been in Guaraní for a long time.
In addition, he stressed that he follows in the footsteps of his other compatriots who are active in different clubs in our country, although he admits that they cannot get together to share due to the pandemic that prevents crowding.
“I came to Paraguay this year, I arrived a week before the tournament (Apertura) started and I signed a one-year contract with Guaraní, I previously played for Deportivo Cali (where he won the league title in 2015). It is my first experience outside my country, I came here as a free player ”.
He commented that his decision to come with offers in his country was by Professor Gustavo Costas. He was the one who left a good impression in Colombia directing Independiente Santa Fe, being the club’s most winning coach.
That motivated him a lot, because he is a person who knows Colombian football and also because of the project he has at Aurinegro. He confirmed that he is a coach who likes his team to have intensity and for his players to stay focused.
“I did not come to Guaraní in passing, I came to make history by doing good things for the club; giving them titles so that when the possibility of leaving is given, it does so through the front door”, Expressed the coffee player, as if charging himself with a commitment.
He added that thanks to God, he already had the opportunity to play in Guaraní, debuting against Olimpia, he also played Copa Libertadores against Atlético Nacional, a local tournament against Cerro Porteño, Libertad, and Nacional for the local tournament.
Renteria, has his compatriot Guillermo Tegüe, who plays in the same position. What’s more, they arrived in Guaraní together and alternate positions in defense. He added that he already knew Guillermo from the clashes between his teams in Colombia and that he already knew about his career.
Following that same line, he pointed out that they arrived on the same day (with Tegüe) and that they have a good relationship, as with all colleagues. They live in different places each with their family, but they always share after training.
“I don’t see (Tegüe) as a competition, because he is a young player who has a lot to learn, he has great conditions and I am here to support him. We certainly fought for a position, although we could perfectly play together, the same as with the other fellow defenders. However, the fight is healthy, honest and always wishing the best for the team ”, he explained.
Aim for the Clausura Tournament
Renteria has a high expectation regarding the next tournament, since the Aurinegro team was left out of the Cup very early and also from the fight for the Apertura tournament.
“This time that I have been working here at the club, playing some games, logically it served to get to know Paraguayan football much more. The way the different teams play, how to attack, how to defend. I am more and more connected and I think that is very important for what will be the last matches of this tournament and looking at the next championship ”.
“My idea is to fight for the title, Guaraní is a big club that always enters to fight for the championship. We believe that with a good preseason we will be ready to start the next tournament on the right foot ”, he said.
