Olimpia defeated Sportivo Ameliano 2-0, on Sunday at the Manuel Ferreira stadium at the end of the fifth date of the Clausura 2022 tournament, in a match that had some controversial refereeing decisions that became a trend on social networks.
The fringed team opened the scoring in the 24th minute through a dubious penalty sanctioned by the referee, Carlos Paul Benítez. From a corner, Saúl Salcedo managed to apply the header, the ball seems to hit the face of Leonardo Incorvaia, player of the “V Azulada”. However, from the VAR they considered a hand.
Alejandro Silva took charge of the penalty kick, whose first shot was stopped by the rival goalkeeper, Jorge Chena. The shot had to be repeated, correctly, due to a clear overtaking by the goalkeeper. The Uruguayan footballer did not forgive in the repetition and broke the zero.
The second great controversy of the night took place in the other area, only on that occasion those in charge of dispensing justice applied the famous: “non-collectible hand”. Also from a corner kick, the ball hit the hand of the fringed striker, Guillermo Paiva, but the referee of the match, Carlos Paul Benítez, applied the “go-go”.
From the VAR, which was in charge of Juan Gabriel Benítez, they made the corresponding call, but the main judge “did not find grounds to call the penalty” and decided to call the end of the first half.
Finally, Olimpia finished it off in the second half with the sacred cry of Derlis González and climbed to fourth position with 9 points; 4 units from their staunch rival, Cerro Porteño, the sole leader of the championship and with whom they will collide on Sunday, August 14.
