Vermont Men’s Soccer Tabbed Favorites in America East Preseason Poll
The University of Vermont men’s soccer team has been selected as the unanimous favorite to win the 2025 America East Conference title, according to the league’s preseason coaches’ poll. The Catamounts, fresh off a accomplished season that saw them reach the NCAA Tournament, garnered all seven first-place votes, accumulating 49 points.New Hampshire was picked second with 40 points,followed by Bryant in third with 38 points and one first-place vote. UMBC secured the fourth spot with 33 points, while NJIT (21), Binghamton (17), UMass Lowell (13), and UAlbany (13) rounded out the poll.
The Catamounts’ strong preseason ranking is bolstered by a roster featuring several standout players. Three vermont athletes were named to the 2025 America East Preseason All-Conference team: forwards Maximilian Kissel and David Ismail, midfielder Ryan Zellefrow, defender Nick Lockermann, and goalkeeper Niklas Herceg.
Last season, the Catamounts’ goalkeeper posted the third-best goals-against average (GAA) in a single season in UVM men’s soccer history with a 0.67 GAA. In six NCAA Tournament matches, he allowed just three goals while making 29 saves, resulting in an notable 0.42 GAA.
Vermont will commence their 2025 campaign at home, hosting Sacred Heart on Thursday, August 21, at 6 p.m. from Virtue Field. The team’s home stand continues on Sunday,August 24,with an afternoon matchup against Boston University at 1 p.m.
