Frankfurt After three unsuccessful rounds of collective bargaining, the Verdi union is calling on aviation security workers at several German airports to go on warning strikes on Monday. There will be strikes all day at the airports in Berlin, Düsseldorf, Cologne/Bonn, Bremen, Hanover and Leipzig, Verdi said on Saturday. At Berlin-Brandenburg Airport, work should be stopped from 4 a.m. to midnight.

“The work of the aviation security forces must remain financially attractive so that the urgently needed specialists can be recruited,” explained Verdi negotiator Wolfgang Pieper. There is already a shortage of employees who are willing to work around the clock, on weekends and public holidays.

The union is demanding a wage increase of at least one euro per hour for the 25,000 employees in the industry over a period of twelve months. The wages are also to be standardized for the various fields of application – freight, people or goods checks and aircraft security – at the highest wage level. Verdi criticized that the Federal Association of Aviation Security Companies (BDLS) had not increased its inadequate offer from the first round of negotiations.

The BDLS, on the other hand, stated at the beginning of March that it had already submitted two offers for increases. But Verdi expresses new wishes after each approach.

The required change in the tariff structure would have enormous financial consequences. The employers’ association wants to first reach an agreement on the structural change and then negotiate higher wages. According to Verdi, the collective bargaining will take place on 16/17. March continued in Berlin.
