Venezuela Adds 5,600 Soldiers as U.S. Naval Presence Fuels Concerns
Caracas, Venezuela – December 6, 2025 – The Venezuelan army formally inducted 5,600 new soldiers in a ceremony held in Caracas on Saturday, a move directly linked to escalating tensions with the United States. The induction follows the deployment, beginning in August,of a substantial U.S. naval force to the Caribbean Sea, including the world’s largest aircraft carrier.
Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro addressed the new recruits, framing the increased military preparedness as a necessary response to what he characterized as “imperialist” maneuvers. He urged a strengthening of enlistment and a unified front against external pressures.
“Under no circumstances will we allow an invasion by an imperialist force,” declared colonel Gabriel Alejandro rendón Vílchez during the ceremony, underscoring the government’s firm stance.
Military officials report a important surge in volunteer applications to join the armed forces. General Javier José Marcano Tábata stated, “At a time when imperialism threatens our homeland, our people, young people are joining the Bolivarian National Armed Forces in the thousands.” The induction ceremony took place at Fuerte Tiuna, Venezuela’s largest military complex.
Venezuela currently maintains an estimated 200,000 soldiers and a further 200,000 police officers, according to official government figures.
The recent escalation in tensions stems, in part, from U.S. military actions targeting vessels suspected of involvement in drug trafficking within the caribbean Sea. These strikes resulted in the deaths of 87 individuals,a figure that has drawn criticism from Caracas, which alleges a lack of concrete evidence linking the deceased to drug trafficking operations.
For over two decades, Venezuela has been a focal point of U.S. scrutiny. President Donald Trump’s administration has repeatedly accused Venezuela of being a primary source of narcotics entering the United States. Caracas vehemently denies these accusations, asserting that Washington’s true agenda centers on regime change and gaining control over venezuela’s substantial oil reserves.
