Clashes between groups of young people and the police took place in Paris on Sunday evening, after PSG’s loss to Bayern Munich in the Champions League final. Vehicles were then set on fire and shops vandalized on the Champs-Elysées.

Around the stadium already, clashes had taken place throughout the match. The police used tear gas in front of supporters armed with firecrackers and fireworks.

“It is 1:00 am: as of this time, all the people gathering on the Champs-Elysées sector will be fined, under the order of prohibition of the prefect of Police”, subsequently tweeted the Prefecture from police.

Shortly before one in the morning, groups of young people continued to confront the police with throwing glass bottles and fireworks mortars. The police used tear gas and defense bullet launchers.

“Inadmissible overflows”

Around the Parc des Princes, at the end of the match, annoyed by the defeat of their team, supporters attacked the balustrades surrounding the renovation site of the fountain at the Porte de Saint-Cloud, before being stopped by jets tear gas.

The Minister of the Interior Gerald Darmanin considered from the first clashes that they were “inadmissible overflows”. According to the Prefecture of Police, at 12:30 a.m., 22 people had been arrested.
