VBTAI new manager Jānis Ābele promises to listen to employees / Article / LSM.lv

After a long search for a head, the State Inspectorate for the Protection of the Rights of the Child (VBTAI) has fallen into the hands of a new head – Jānis Ābele. On Thursday, August 13, he got acquainted with the staff and promised to make the institution an institution that helps both families and orphans’ courts and schools. The head of VBTAI is also committed to listening to the employees of the institution.

VBTAI has been without a manager since the end of last year. The inspection of his new boss was only following a re-tender. Until now, Jānis Ābele has worked at the Central Finance and Contracts Agency. He came to get acquainted with the new team on Thursday, August 13, accompanied by the Minister of Welfare Ramonas Petravičas (“KPV LV”).

Ābeli was motivated to enter the competition by the desire to establish an inspectorate as a modern child and youth support and welfare center.

“I still have the maximalism of youth and the will to help my country. I have children myself, I was also asked this question by the Prime Minister before his appointment.

One of the daughters, seeing that I was confirmed, asked if I was now the chief pediatric infectologist. My ambition is to have our institution talked about as often as infectologists, “said Abele.

The Minister of Welfare emphasized that in order to improve the protection of the rights of children’s rights, the Inspectorate must become an institution that is trusted and relied on.

“There is a lot to be done. I expect that the capacity of the institution will be assessed and it will change from a punitive method to a methodological support institution,” Petraviča said.

The new head of the inspection expressed his commitment to listen and hear the staff. Direct misunderstandings with employees was the basis for the Ministry of Welfare (MoW) terminate the employment relationship with former head of inspection Marianne Drey. There are currently nine vacancies in the institution, and finding new employees will not be easy.

“Sometimes people feel that working in public administration is beautiful to sit in the office. Our daily lives are violence against children, painful and severe suffering. And people burn out,” admitted VBTAI department director Valentina Gorbunova.

The institution could expect even more change soon. MoW encourages to restructure, createst Central Child Rights Protection Authority, which will oversee the orphans’ courts. Following the entry into force of the territorial reform, the number of orphans ‘courts will decrease and, in order to prevent the possible influence of local governments on decisions, the members of orphans’ courts are encouraged to be selected through a competition.
