Vaud: Feb. 2019: Vevey agrees to give up 100,000 francs – Switzerland

The City of Vevey and the Brotherhood of Vintners have reached an agreement on the still open invoices for the Fête des vignerons 2019. The arrangement provides that the city waives a little more than 100,000 francs of invoice. It also provides for reimbursement via a drop in rent for the building of the Historical Museum. The municipal council must give its approval.

A “deal” was found between the City and the organizers of the Festival on May 15 on the total amount of these invoices which still amounts to 588,000 francs, Etienne Rivier, municipal, told Keystone-ATS on Tuesday. veveysan responsible for the file, confirming 24-hour information.

At the end of last September, the amount due to the City amounted to more than 700,000 francs. “Invoices have been paid in the meantime,” says Rivier. With the agreement found, the City of Vevey now undertakes to waive a claim of 102,800 francs, “a gesture of solidarity”, according to him.

Still according to this arrangement, the balance of the invoice, that is some 485,000 francs, will not be made by a direct reimbursement but by a reduction in rent of the castle of Vevey which houses the Historical Museum of Vevey and the Musée de la Fête des winemakers. The city will indeed rent for 14 years at half price this building which belongs to the Foundation of the Brotherhood of winegrowers, or 34,700 francs per year instead of 69,400, explains the municipal.

Total deficit of 15 million

This agreement will be presented to the Municipal Council on June 18, where an ad hoc committee should be created. The municipal councilors will then debate it in September.

The Municipality also confirmed that it would not count the hours of municipal staff worked as part of the normal work of the administration but in connection with the preparation of the Feast, that is to say nearly 19,000 hours of work, according to M Rivier.

The accounts of the Fête des vignerons held from July 18 to August 11, 2019 showed a deficit of at least 15 million francs. Ten million are covered by the brotherhood’s reserves and a plan to find five million has been decided. (ats / Le Matin)
