Jakarta – Honda anticipates Indonesian motorcycle sales will reach 6.4 million units in 2024, building on a strong performance with 5.4 million units sold from January to October, according to recent data from the indonesian Motorcycle Industry association (AISI). The projection comes as PT Astra Honda Motor (AHM) introduces its latest iteration of the Vario 125 scooter, a key contributor to the company’s sales.
The Vario 125 currently accounts for 15-17 percent of AHM’s total sales in Indonesia, revealed Thomas Wijaya, Executive Vice President of PT AHM, during an event in Cikarang, West Java.Based on a projected national motorcycle sales figure of 4.9 million units for 2024, this translates to an estimated 700,000 Vario 125 units sold annually.
Launched in 2012, the Vario 125 has become a mainstay in the Indonesian market, with total sales reaching 9 million units over 13 years. The Vario line itself debuted in Indonesia in 2006 with a 110cc engine, adn now includes a 160cc option alongside the updated 125cc model.
Octavianus Dwi, Marketing Director of PT AHM, expects market conditions to remain consistent with 2023. “The market will likely be similar to last year,” Octa stated, adding that Honda’s performance will follow suit, “even if it increases slightly.”
Octa also noted a positive trend in October and November sales, and highlighted the importance of financing options, stating that 70% of Honda’s motorcycle sales are credit-based. He also acknowledged a modest stimulus from the goverment in the fourth quarter, contributing to overall market optimism.
