Variables associated with exercise in breast cancer survivors

Female breast cancer survivors (MSCM) can suffer from numerous side effects and sequelae, for this reason regular exercise (PE) is recommended, as a strategy that has proven useful in mitigating the negative physical and psychological symptoms caused about cancer and its treatments. Objective: To know if the variables of: anxiety symptoms, depressive symptoms, coping styles, level of social support and barriers, are associated with PE in MSCM. Method: This is a descriptive study of women attending the Madrid office of the Spanish Cancer Association (AECC). The variables analyzed are: regular or unregulated exercise, assessed with the questionnaire of stages of change for physical exercise (URICA E2), anxiety symptoms with the Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI), depressive symptoms with the Beck’s Depression Inventory ( BDI-II), the COPE-28 questionnaire, the level of social support through the Medical Outcomes Study-Social Support Survey (MOS), and a barriers questionnaire designed by Kostik (2016) were used to assess coping styles . The sample consisted of 200 women, of which 165 eventually participated, with a mean age of 49.17 years (SD=7.54). Results: 62.4% say they have children, 50.3% are married, 75.8% have studied at university, 57.8% are active. As regards the clinical variables, 100% of the women underwent surgery, 78.2% also received chemotherapy, 78.8% radiotherapy and 78.8% hormone therapy.
