Vans have frozen, a new car has been waiting for a year – ČT24 – Czech Television

The long wait concerns people who order a car with a specific surcharge production and it is just going into production. However, the waiting times are decided by the individual equipment elements. “They can vary according to individual equipment and engines, and the situation is changing very dynamically,” said Škoda Auto spokesman Pavel Jína.

According to Jan Klíma, the importer of Volkswagen brand importer media representative, the lack of chips began to have a more significant effect on production at the beginning of this summer. He does not expect an improvement in the autumn.

“For the third quarter, we expect deliveries to remain highly volatile and tight. We expect improvements before the end of the year. As soon as deliveries are resumed, we are ready to increase production, include additional shifts in production and deliver outstanding orders to clients as quickly as possible, “he emphasized. According to him, waiting times range from two to 12 months. These are not so much specific models, but rather some elements of optional equipment, he added.

According to the general director of the Czech representation of the Japanese Toyota and Lexus brands, Martin Peleška, the increased demand for cars was also a sign of a longer wait. It exceeded the expectations of manufacturers. “Our original production allocation for this year was at the level of 14,000 cars, and we are currently aiming for 18,000 new orders for 2021,” he pointed out.

Estimates of how long customers will wait vary greatly from car to car. A Škoda spokesman mentioned an interval from five weeks to several months, a Volkswagen representative about two to twelve months, and the head of a Czech Toyota about six to eight months. According to spokeswoman Kateřina Vaňková, the delivery time at the Korean carmaker Kia differs significantly depending on where each model is manufactured. Ceed and Sportage cars manufactured in Slovakia are taken over by customers one to three months after ordering, while the new Kia Sorento, which is manufactured in South Korea, is usually available six to eight, sometimes twelve months apart.

It is similar with another Korean brand Hyundai. Its spokesman David Pavlíček stated that delivery times have generally been extended in the order of weeks, but deliveries of some models are expected to take six to nine months. These are also cars manufactured in South Korea.

Sales of new passenger cars in the Czech Republic in the first eight months of the year increased by 12.37 percent year on year to 147,659 vehicles. Compared to 2019, however, it is still a decrease of almost 16%. In August, sales fell by one percent year on year.
