“Vandals of corona riots avoid payment of compensation due to error of justice”

Due to a mistake by the judiciary and the Public Prosecution Service, the vandals who destroyed the Museumplein during riots last January, did not have to pay compensation. As a result, municipalities, the government and insurers bear the costs.

This is shown by research by RTL News.

According to RTL, the judge ordered 37 perpetrators to deposit 16,000 euros in a damage fund for the destruction of street furniture and police cars in the city. Former minister Ferd Grapperhaus promised that that damage would be recovered down to the last cent from the perpetrators, but nothing has come of it. Partly because in a large proportion of the lawsuits no compensation has been imposed, but also because no fund has been set up. This has never happened due to ‘legal barriers’.

The demonstration, which was illegal, got completely out of hand. Police and riot police used water cannons to clear the area and violence was used. More than 100 arrests were made.
