Van shoveled at an unguarded level crossing

The driver of the van did not survive the collision. The train driver is not injured, but is very shocked, the police say.

The police are investigating how the accident could have happened.

The freight train did not transport any dangerous goods, reports ProRail.

Rail manager ProRail and the cabinet want to get rid of all unsecured level crossings quickly, after several serious accidents. In the Netherlands there are about three hundred such transitions, 180 of which are publicly accessible. These publicly accessible non-actively secured level crossings are intended to be tackled by 2024.
