Abrahamsen Claims Maiden Tour de France Stage Victory After Grueling Battle
Jonas Abrahamsen of Uno-X Mobility has secured his first-ever Tour de France stage win, crossing the finish line ahead of Mauro Schmidt of Jaco Alurer in a dramatic sprint. The Norwegian rider, who overcame a broken collarbone sustained just four weeks prior at the Tour of Belgium, expressed disbelief and elation at his victory.”I broke my collarbone at the Tour de Belgium four weeks ago, and shed tears in my hospital room, saying, ‘I’ve now lost my ability to compete in the Tour.’ However, the next day I started rolling the rollers at home and tried every possible way to compete. And I really can’t believe I was able to win with the Tool I reached,” Abrahamsen stated. “Last year I wore the polka Dot Jersey, but I really wanted a stage victory. Finally my dream came true.”
Abrahamsen, in his second Tour de France appearance, achieved this milestone after multiple breakaway attempts.Last year, he made history as the first Norwegian to wear the Polka Dot Jersey (Mountain Classification). His victory today marks a significant achievement, fulfilling his long-held ambition for a stage win.Mathieu van der Poel of Alpecin-Deceuninck finished third, a mere seven seconds behind Abrahamsen, and expressed his disappointment. “It’s a shame as we’re close to victory,” he commented. Other riders in his team, including Splinter, where unable to keep pace with the leading contenders like Healy and Pogacar, finishing over three minutes behind.
The peloton now prepares for the next challenge, a demanding three-day mountain stage in the Pyrenees. Ben healy of EF Education-EasyPost, the current Maillot Jaune (Yellow Jersey) holder, was seen protecting his lead.
