Van Basten surprised at Babel at Ajax: “It’s a routine”

Marco van Basten criticizes Ryan Babel at FOX Sports, who made an unfortunate impression against Getafe. But the former footballer is also critical of Dusan Tadic and Danilo Pereira.

“If you see the vanguard of Ajax with Tadic, Babel and Danilo, then it is very little what they have brought. Those are your attackers who have to force something. It had no effect whatsoever,” says Van Basten, who then addresses the role of Babel. “It’s a routine man. You’d think he was a point of contact, but everything flew off his feet and he only suffered a loss of ball.”

“What do you have to do then? Whether it surprises me? Yes, because the last couple of times with the Dutch national team I thought he was good. That was some time ago, I think,” says Van Basten.

Kenneth Perez stands up for Babel. “I think he performs above expectations for the Dutch national team. That is why he stays there. The problem is that we see him play every week. His assumptions are no different than fifteen years ago. I think it’s a shame he is no better at that. In the small space you need a good assumption. I think that is a downside, but he can play football. He is really in a lesser phase. “
