Today, on Eduards Smiļģis’ birthday, the best productions and individual performances of the past theater season were awarded.

The prize for a lifetime contribution to the art of theater was given to director Māra Ķimele and actor Leonīds Lencs, while the title of the big form of the year was given to director Elmārs Senkovs’ performance “Shakespeare” at the Liepāja Theater.

The prize for the annual show for children was given to director Tomas Treiņš’s play “The Yard Comes Alive”, but the annual show for teenagers was recognized by “Dirty Deal Teatro” director Krista Burāne’s play “Immoral”.

The creator of the annual show Sīlis has been recognized as the director of the year. The title of Actress of the Year was awarded to Liepaja Theater actress Inese Kučinska for the role of Richard II in “Shakespeare”, but the title of Actor of the Year was awarded to Latvian National Theater actor Kārlis Reijers for the roles “Boy Who Saw in the Dark”, “Katls” and “Margaret”.

In the category “Light Artist of the Year”, Lienīte Slišāne was awarded for her performance in the show, which was recognized as the best show of the year – “The Boy Who Saw in the Dark”. Gints Gabrāns, Toms Zeļģis and Gustavs Voldemārs Lociks have been recognized as video artists of the year for their work in the Latvian National Theater performance “Alice in Wonderland”.

The special prize in the category “Show for Youth” was given to the performance “Evil Rock” by director Kārlis Krūmiņš, which was created by the Gertrudes Street Theater in cooperation with the Latvian Academy of Culture.

Vorobjov said that the new productions of the season were watched, evaluated and the winners were nominated by a jury of five people. This was done by theater scientist, chairman of the jury Līga Ulberte, theater critic Andris Rutkēviča, commentator, translator Eduards Liniņš, theater critic, cultural journalist Undīne Adamaite and theater journalist Jevgēņija Šermeņeva.
