Valncia leaves 92% of the self-employed who requested them without aid

The departure of the Valencia City Council to help the self-employed and small companies has barely reached 1,100 beneficiaries, 8% of the more than 14,000 who applied for these grants. Therefore, the forecasts of the group of self-employed and SMEs, which criticized the shortage of aid, 3.7 million euros, and the added fact that they were granted in order of entry are fulfilled. The consistory has already announced a second game with another million and a half, remembering, in any case, that it is “complementary” aid to that of the Generalitat that aims to save business and employment. In fact, one condition is to maintain activity and employment for one year, which is why they calculate that 3,000 jobs have been saved.

This first municipal remittance to help the self-employed and SMEs, known as the Plan Estímulo Reactiva València, contained 3.7 million euros, money that would be distributed in amounts of between 3,000 and 5,000 euros to the first companies and self-employed who requested them until finish the money. Both issues were harshly criticized by the group, which considered the economic item scarce and unfair the way to award it, in order of entry. They warned that those affected in the capital could be between 50,000 and 100,000, so a budget change would be needed to meet all requests.

Finally, there have not been so many requests, but all his other provisions have been met. According to the data published yesterday by the Valencia City Council, 14,370 requests for help have been received and 1,096 have finally been granted, with an average of 3,000 euros. In other words, 92% of applicants have been left out.

The Councilor for Employment, Pilar Bernabé, has implicitly recognized that the figure is low, hence she has announced a second phase, with 1.5 million euros, to continue serving this group. However, Bernabé has defended the plan and the assigned amounts, which cannot be more extensive if, for example, the government does not allow the consistory to use the 60 million of last year’s surplus, he says.

According to the councilor, these aids are not in a bad way and their main objective is to maintain activity and employment. In fact, this first phase would have saved 3,000 jobs, he says. “The beneficiaries are going to receive direct help to reactivate their company and in exchange they must maintain economic activity for at least a year,” explained Bernabé, who also recalled that these aid “are complementary to those requested. to the Generalitat, of SMEs and freelancers, and to which the City Council itself grants to specific sectors ». It is estimated that the regional administration will serve 60% of the self-employed and the municipalities the other 40%.

Finally, the councilor has assured that “formulas will continue to be sought to expand all these lines to be able to cover 100 percent of SMEs and the self-employed.” And in this sense, the councilor specified that 60% of the requests did not meet the requirements.

These explanations have not prevented the spokesperson for the Popular Group, María José Català, from considering the aid from the consistory “totally insufficient”. In his opinion, “the Ribó government is demonstrating absolute ineffectiveness in a situation of extreme need.” “From the first day we denounced that Compromís and PSPV generated great anxiety for the self-employed, posing these aids as a competition and this anxiety has now not been compensated, since most have been left out,” he says.

Català recalls that in the Re-Activa grants it was established that the order of arrival of the application prevailed, which caused the blocking of the website of the city council and great stress among the applicants. The Municipal People’s Group, furthermore, warns that the Ribó government only gives 5 business days to those who meet the requirements to submit another document with their bank account.

In general, the PP asks that the item be expanded and that all self-employed and companies that meet the requirements be served.
