Valentino Rossi, three GPs at dawn: “It won’t be easy. I realized my life is about to change” | News

There are only three races to go until the end of his MotoGP career and the nine-time world champion confesses that he is suffering a bit from the moment.

“I got paranoid thinking about Valencia. I think I’m not prepared for the moment when I stop being a MotoGP rider. “The exit from the scene (or rather the time to get off the saddle) is now around the corner and Valentino Rossi, despite the “shoals” of a very poor career ending on the track reveals that he is far from ready to permanently put away the helmet, suit and gloves: those of a premier class motorcycle, at least.

He announced to the world his decision to dismount just over two months ago, Thursday 5 August, on the eve of the first free practice sessions of the Styrian Grand Prix in Spielberg. But now that the countdown numbers are getting smaller and smaller (and despite the continuing absence of significant results in the six GPs that have been staged between then and last Sunday), nostalgia pushes the Doctor to confess that the detachment will not be painless but still somehow serene. The “acute” phase of the countdown begins with the emotionally intense appointment with the Grand Prix of Made in Italy and Emilia-Romagna scheduled from 22 to 24 October at Marco Simoncelli World Circuit of Misano Adriatico, where to make the weekend even more intense – not just for Valentino, of course – will be the anniversary (Saturday 23) of the tenth anniversary of Marco’s fatal accident in the Malaysian GP at Sepang. Then there will be only the Portuguese GP in November in Portimao and the GP of the Valencian Community on the following weekend at the “Ricardo Tormo” in Cheste.

“When I announced my retirement in Austria, I was not particularly affected by my words. But now it’s different, I’ve realized my life is about to change. I’ve been talking about my retirement for fifteen years, but I never worried about it. The farewell to the World Championship will not be easy, but I think it can still be a good moment, despite everything. ”
