Vaccines for cachanillas infants sold out – La Voz de la Frontera

In just four days, 18,462 Mexicalense boys and girls, within the range of 5 to 11 years of age, came to apply the first dose of the vaccine against Covid-19, being the youngest population group to be included in the national immunization strategy in the midst of the pandemic that is still in force.

With this demand, the doses assigned for the state capital were exhausted and the goal initially set by the authorities was exceeded.

Adrián Medina Amarillas, Secretary of Health in the State, indicated that Mexicali received more vaccines than in Tijuana, where the bulk of the population is concentrated.

For Friday in this city the vaccination day was canceled and only remained in effect in Tijuana.

“There were modules with greater demand and that was the case in Mexicali where more vaccines were applied and the main population is there.”

As of Friday morning, 15,000 vaccines had been applied to minors in Tijuana, 10,000 in Ensenada, 1,590 in Tecate, 2,000 in Playas de Rosarito, 678 in San Felipe, and 4,000 in San Quintín.

Medina Amarillas said that as head of the Ministry of Health, he has already requested a new consignment of vaccines from the Federal Government and when they are confirmed, the population will be summoned again.

INFANTS ALSO DIE

In Baja California, Covid-19 has not only afflicted the adult population but has also taken its toll on children and adolescents with infections and deaths.

It is also the sector of the population that was the last to be included in the national vaccination strategy against coronavirus.

Figures from the Ministry of Health indicate that since the beginning of the pandemic in the entity, Covid-19 has been detected in 5,937 people between zero and 17 years of age.

Efrén Zazueta Fierro, head of the Epidemiology department, explained that in 2020, when the health emergency began, Baja California debuted with 643 cases in the child and adolescent population.

During that same year, 38 minors lost their lives due to complications from the virus.

By 2021, the State reported 3,228 infections and 23 deaths in that same population group, and so far this year there have been 10 deaths and 2,066 positive tests in children and adolescents.

“If we put it in proportion to adults, it is much lower, definitely children are infected less, deaths are not compared to the more than 12,000 deaths in adults, but one child death is a lot.”

The complications of Covid-19 that increase the probability of death in the population were associated with diseases such as hypertension, diabetes and obesity, in children the main risk factors are autoimmune diseases, cancer or diet.

“Children with underlying diseases in particular are the ones at greatest risk, but it is not the only example, some children died and did not have risk factors,” explained the epidemiologist.

Zazueta Fierro considered that the vaccination against Covid-19 that has just started in the group that goes from 5 to 11 years could reverse the incidence of the virus.

He explained that the vaccines are designed to reduce the risk of complications from the virus and to a lesser extent the possibility of acquiring the disease.

Recently, the Ministry of Health made adjustments to the protocol that must be implemented within schools in the face of the appearance of isolated infections, so with this plus the vaccine they consider can be paid

“We noticed that there were children who were going to school sick and that is something that should not happen, we defined the first filter at home and unless there are more than three cases in a classroom, activities are suspended,” said Zazueta Fierro.
