Physical and verbal attacks on anticovid health personnel in La Ceja, Antioquia

These types of acts in La Ceja have been on the rise since the beginning of the fourth wave of the virus.

Vaccination staff against covid-19 in La Ceja was assaulted by a user who did not get vaccinated. This was denounced by the Ceja Municipal Administration.

The event was recorded this Tuesday, January 18, inside the facilities of a shopping center in this municipality in eastern Antioquia. The woman assaulted a nurse and an administrative assistant because the biologics available for the vaccination day they were over before it was his turn.

The event happened so fast that the aggressor was not arrested neither by the authorities nor by the security of the shopping center where the event occurred.

From the Secretary of Health of La Ceja they expressed their regret and rejection for this aggression and pointed out that due to the fourth peak that is currently being experienced, the IPS that support vaccination in the municipality have shown an increase in cases of physical and verbal aggression by some cejeños due to the scarcity and high demand for anticovid biologicals, fact that has gained greater notoriety since the last two months.

“The vaccination process depends on the assignment of biologicals that arrive at La Ceja from the Antioquia Sectional Health Directorate and we vaccinate according to the availability that we have in cava, our health personnel have not stopped; these actions undermine the medical mission, therefore, we demand respect towards them”, expressed Paola Andrea Ocampo Pérez, secretary (e) of Health and Social Protection of La Ceja.

For her part, the manager (e) of the Hospital de La Ceja, Ana Cristina Betancur, recalled that health professionals from Ceja they have risked their lives and those of their families to protect the lives of other people.

“In recent days there have been verbal and physical attacks on medical personnel; but also to the hospital infrastructure where people work who give their all every day to vaccinate us. We strongly reject all kinds of aggression against health personnel and we invite the population to tolerance”, he added.

This is not the first time that this type of situation has occurred, which is why the municipal administration calls for respect and tolerance for the health personnel who have worked since the beginning of the pandemic. and that they have been essential to take care of public health.

Currently in La Ceja more than 100,000 doses of vaccines against covid-19 have been applied; however, the municipal administration is aware that many more doses still need to be applied to fully immunize its population.

However, sending more doses depends on the distribution capacity of the Antioquia Department of Health, which in turn depends on the vaccines distributed by the Ministry of Health and the National Government.
