Vaccination passport: they offer to do the shopping for the non-vaccinated

Quebecers offer to go shopping for non-vaccinated people, who have seen their access to several businesses be prohibited since the recent imposition of the vaccine passport.

« [sic] You don’t have your vaccination passport and you need to get stuff from the stores that ask for it? […] I’m here for you,” one woman wrote on Facebook, offering a same-day delivery trip rate for purchases at several big-box stores.

It thus wishes to render a service to unvaccinated people who no longer have access to the Société des alcools du Québec (SAQ), the Société québécoise du cannabis (SQDC) and stores of more than 1,500 square meters, since the 18 and 24 January respectively.

Although most of these businesses offer delivery and even curbside pick-up, several vaccinated citizens have decided to defy the government and offer to shop in these stores for non-vaccinated people.

On Kijiji and Facebook

After a simple search on the internet, The newspaper found a dozen ads on Kijiji and Facebook offering these services.

Some of them do not mention that they are aimed specifically at non-vaccinated people, but list the main stores where the vaccination passport has recently been requested.

« [sic] I offer my home delivery services for vaccinated or unvaccinated who do not have a passport for any type of race,” reads an ad on Kijiji that offers, among other things, to deliver products from the SAQ. and the SQDC in the Quebec region for $25.

“I offer my pickup and delivery services for those who unfortunately can no longer shop at the SAQ, Walmart, Costco, etc. wrote a Facebook user in a Laval group.

In the Victoriaville region, an Internet user offers to deliver purchases to non-vaccinated people for $30 an hour.

Free if you wait

A Facebook user offers this service for free if the recipient waits outside the store to pick up the purchases.

“My reason is very simple, the vaccine is a personal choice and people who don’t want or can’t have/take the vaccine should not be punished/banned/singled out/sidelined for their personal choice” , he replied when questioned by The newspaper as to the reasons which led him to offer this service at zero cost.

The Ministry of Public Security did not respond to questions from the Journal.

For his part, the Director of Criminal and Penal Prosecutions argued that he could not give legal advice to journalists when questioned about the legality of the services offered by these Internet users.

Legal, but watch out for alcohol

Lawyer François-David Bernier says it’s not illegal for someone to run errands for an unvaccinated person at big box stores.

In his opinion, however, those who offer to deliver alcohol and cannabis face consequences.

Quebec laws governing cannabis and alcohol prohibit the delivery of its substances without authorization under penalty of fines, he underlines.

According to Me Bernier, it is among other things because of the minimum age required to buy these substances that this regulation is necessary. “If anyone delivers, how can you make sure the minimum age rules are followed?” he summarizes.
