Director of Immunizations Ministry of Health (Minsa), Gabriela Jiménez, provided details of the campaign of vaccination of minors from 5 to 11 years old, which will start next week.

“This protocol has been approved and awaiting the entry of the vaccines to the country. Jiménez specified that, since the vaccines will arrive every week, the call for the vaccination of children will be divided into three phases:

First group: all children between 5 and 11 years of age with comorbidity or immunosuppression and children between 10 and 11 years of age in general.

second group: boys and girls from 8 to 9 years old.

third group: boys and girls from 5 to 7 years old.

The specialist added that children who have had COVID-19 Mild patients may receive the vaccine 14 days after discharge, and if the case has been severe, with hospitalization and oxygenation, they must wait 90 days to be immunized.

In that sense, Jimenez recalled that the cases that are being reported in this third wave, the prevalence of cases in the group from 5 to 11 is somewhat higher than that from 12 to 17 years.

Likewise, he indicated that within the guidelines, it has already been approved that in all cities, “educational institutions that are approved due to physical, structural, operational, and functional conditions will become vaccination centers for children and, in widely scattered rural areas, the activity will be with house-to-house community introduction brigades”.
