Vaccination of Asylum Seekers in DKI Begins to be Rolled, Targeting 7 Thousand People

Jakarta

Program vaccination for asylum seekers in Jakarta has rolled out. The DKI Jakarta Health Office said that this program targets around 7,000 asylum seekers who live in Jakarta.

“That (vaccination) has been carried out. It is estimated that there are 7 thousand in Jakarta,” said the Head of Disease Prevention and Control of the DKI Jakarta Health Service, Dwi Oktavia when contacted, Friday night (9/24/2021).

Dwi explained that the allocation of the COVID-19 vaccine came from the United Nations (UN) and CSR. The vaccine is distributed through the central government to the DKI Provincial Government. Activity vaccination has started since early September.

The DKI Provincial Government is also coordinating with UNHCR to collect data on asylum seekers.

“The preparation is quite long from the two months we met with the ministry of health, UNHCR and others. So it has been in several meetings, it has been facilitated to have it recorded in the pcare (vaccine), so the vaccine can be recorded,” he explained.

Dwi said that this vaccination program was not carried out routinely. The system is waiting for data from UNHCR before the COVID-19 vaccination is scheduled.

“Depending on the readiness of the validation results, verification by UNHCR and the International Organization of Migration (IOM). Then it is only scheduled at a certain date,” he said.

DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan previously prepared regulations to be able to provide Corona vaccinations to foreigners in Jakarta. Foreign refugees in Jakarta can also be vaccinated against Corona.

“It is in the process of being finalized. Later, as soon as it is final, we will announce it. But it is true that we are trying to be able to give vaccines to all, both those who are workers and those who are refugees. We will announce it after the final. But God willing, it will soon be there is a finalization so that they can be vaccinated as well,” Anies told reporters, Tuesday (24/8).
