Messina Launches free Vaccination & STI Testing day with New Papardo Hospital Center
Messina, Italy - A new Vaccination Center opened at Papardo Hospital today, coinciding with a free Open Day on December 2nd offering vaccinations against HPV, influenza, and COVID-19, alongside free testing for sexually transmitted infections (STIs). The initiative aims to bolster public health and provide accessible preventative care to the Messina community.
The opening of the center is a collaborative effort between Professor Raffaele Squeri, former director of the Polyclinic vaccination center, the ASP (Local Health Authority), and Dr.rita Azzolini, head of the Medical Directorate at Papardo hospital. Dedicated pathways will be established for flu, COVID-19, and vaccinations recommended for individuals with underlying health conditions, as outlined by national guidelines.
The Open Day, organized by risk manager Dr. Barbara Calabrò and head of Infectious Diseases Dr.antonio Albanese, will provide free HPV, influenza, and COVID-19 vaccinations, and also STI testing. Additionally, a new Psychological support desk dedicated to addictions, created in partnership with Lelat of Messina, will be unveiled during the event.
Hospital management emphasized the dual benefit of vaccination, stating it improves individual quality of life by reducing hospitalizations and mortality, while simultaneously limiting the spread of viruses within the broader population. A separate, free vaccination campaign targeting ASP employees has also been launched to protect against seasonal flu and maintain workplace safety.
