Vacationers horrified. What is happening along the Southern Black Sea coast?

On the seventh day, a dead excitement continues with huge waves hitting the shores of the Burgas Bay. After the Transfiguration, the sea “turned” and dangerous undercurrents hit the beaches south of Burgas, writes “Trud”.

On Thursday, the wave of the sea was four points, and the day before, in separate strips, it reached 6 points. The waves washed over the first line of umbrellas and sunbeds, and a powerful storm arose in Ahtopol that broke a large part of them.

Since August 2nd, when Ilinden is celebrated in the old way and the belief is that the sea takes victims, there have been accidents every day, sea rescuers told Trud. In just one day, a Moldovan man and a Czech woman drowned on the beaches of Sunny Beach and Primorsko, both tourists who came to spend the summer on our sea.

In Nessebar and Burgas, lifeguards and people beaching along the strip with their families, including the water polo champion Ognyan Matev, saved a dozen people from the dead excitement.

Eyewitnesses described the events as a horror movie. Rescued and their rescuers, who came out of the water crying and could not calm down for hours.

“Entering the sea is prohibited. We let the holidaymakers up to the waist at most. The sea pulls fearfully inward. Dead excitement digs underwater pits and drags bathers. We don’t let go of those who enter the sea even for a second. The situation is very serious,” Petar Rusev, a senior lifeguard on the Burgas beach, told “Trud”.

Everyone is waiting for the sea to calm down. Interestingly, this year, it was calm and the “dead man” appeared much less often than previous seasons. Even on July 20 – Ilinden in a new style, the sea expanse was “like a tray” – quiet and calm, without waves.

From Preobrazhenie, however, the waves are so big and scary that many vacationers, upon seeing them, grabbed their towels and went home to their hotels, eyewitnesses said.

In order for the sea to calm down, two things are needed – either rain falls, or a southerly wind blows, not a northerly one. Dead excitement usually lasts 3, 5, 7 days. Hopefully at the end of this week it will disappear, explained rescuer Petar Rusev.

However, there were years when the dead man did not leave for 20 consecutive days, i.e. a whole month.

“It’s a real nightmare. In addition to the dead wave, there is also a strong meltem – a wind that raises the wave,” said rescuers.
