The Redmond company has the developer forum MSDN announced that the “Ad Monetization Platform” for UWP apps will finally cease on June 1, 2020. After this time, the developers can no longer monetize their applications directly via Microsoft. Although there are of course many other advertising platforms, only a few services offer an official developer kit for integration in UWP software.
This removes the most attractive option for most developers to finance the work on UWP apps. Microsoft advises the developers concerned to find a different type of monetization in the next few months or even to switch completely to another platform. As of June, many UWP applications should no longer be developed, since most of the apps are simple, ad-financed services.
Statistics available until June 8th
All statistics maintained by the platform are still available until June 8, 2020. This includes, among other things, clicks for advertisements or configurations made. After the corresponding date, all associated pages are switched off, so that the data can no longer be viewed. The developers are therefore advised to download the documents in good time and, if necessary, to save them in their own archive.
