Utah and Oregon have suspended a greater re-opening of their economies in the midst of a resurgence in cases of coronavirus, although other states such as Texas, California, Arkansas and Arizona were not giving back the Friday, despite some warnings flashing there.
The new cases of coronavirus in Oregon reached their highest level reaching to 178 Thursday. The state has seen more than 5,200 cases of coronavirus and 171 deaths since the outbreak hit the state, reported National Review.
Meanwhile, Utah reached a maximum of 556 new cases of coronavirus at the end of last week, adding to the more than 13,000 cases and 131 deaths since the start of the outbreak.
“This is essentially a (phase of) ‘light yellow’ all over the state,” said governor democrat of Oregon, Kate Brown, in a press release Thursday night, although he added that the pause will last for only a week before officials consider continuing to reopening gradual of Oregon.
“I will work with medical and public health experts to determine if you (must) pick up this pause or extend, or make other adjustments,” said Brown.
The governor of Utah, Gary Herbert, a republican, said his state will also stop its re-opening as we investigate the increase in cases of coronavirus.
“I don’t want to move forward and then take a step back,” said Herbert.
He stressed that he has no intention of imposing additional restrictions on companies or close even more the economy of the state.
“We have not closed the economy and, consequently, our economy is much better today than in any other state in the united States,” said Herbert, according to the aforementioned means.
Utah and Oregon are operating county-by-county for the re-opening of their economies by stages. In Utah, Salt Lake City remains in phase “orange”, above the red phase. All the other counties of the state entered in the next phase, “yellow”, except for Kane county, which the governor approved to enter the phase “green”, which has less restrictions, the Friday.
Oregon has implemented a plan to reopen in three phases, with all counties now in the phase one, except for Multnomah county, the largest county of the state, whose request for reopening was rejected by the governor after which the county could not demonstrate that the cases of coronavirus had decreased during the past week.
