Sony IMX 709 sensor co-developed with OPPO

nextren.com – OPPO is known to have a special relationship with a camera sensor manufacturer that is quite popular in the world, namely Sony.
This relationship results in one of the camera sensors used only by OPPO smartphones, namely IMX 709 which has been used by several OPPO smartphones abroad.
The good news is that OPPO will be bringing the latest Reno series smartphone to Indonesia with the IMX 709 sensor in the not too distant future in early 2022.
At the event OPPO Reno Portrait The workshop which took place in Jakarta, Aryo Meidianto A as PR Manager of OPPO Indonesia revealed about the performance of the Sony IMX 709 sensor which will be brought through the next generation of OPPO Reno series smartphones.
This sensor promises better front camera performance and improved portrait features that are the mainstay of the Reno series in 2022.
The Sony IMX 709 sensor is the fruit of a collaboration between OPPO and Sony which was developed directly at OPPO’s development facility in Japan.
In this collaboration, OPPO and Sony have produced 87 patents and developed by more than 300 engineers, and invested more than 1.5 million dollars over 3 years.
The real result of this collaboration can be seen from the Sony IMX 709 sensor which will be installed on the front camera of the next generation of HP OPPO Reno series.
Then what is the Sony IMX 709 sensor like and how does it compare to other camera sensors for taking photos?

Sony IMX 709 is the latest generation sensor with RGBW (Red Green Blue White) format which is said to be more sensitive to light and improve performance in low light shooting scenarios.
New design of RGBW sensor by adding two white pixels to every four pixels. So now, each pixel is capable of detecting and recognizing red, green, blue, and white signals.
When compared to the Sony IMX 615 sensor, the Sony IMX 709 Sensor has a 60% increase in light sensitivity performance and a 35% noise reduction.
In the results exhibited by OPPO, this sensor has a better level of detail compared to conventional RGBW sensors.
OPPO also boasts the IMX 709 sensor’s shooting performance at night, so it’s called the Cat-eye lens, which is inspired by a cat’s eye that can see in the dark.

Not only about capturing images, the IMX 709 is also the first in the industry to embed artificial intelligence into the sensor that can work to improve the quality of photo capture intelligently, save power, and relatively fast image processing time.
Regarding compatibility, the IMX 709 is also said to be compatible with chipsets made by Qualcomm and Mediatek which also confirms that OPPO will only use chipsets from these two brands.
Then what about the results of capturing images with the IMX 709 sensor and compared to the OPPO Reno6 device with IMX 766 and Omnivision?

When compared to the previous 2 sensors, IMX 709 has a much better detail performance.
This can be seen from the results of other sensors which seem to be refined, in contrast to the IMX 709 which has more visible details of hair strands.
