Tragic accident in Porter, Texas, where a child of just three years he found a gun, accidentally exploding a shot into himself and died at his birthday party. According to the reconstruction of the event given by the Montgomery County Sheriff, the authorities were called to the scene at around four in the afternoon for a check. When they arrived at the scene they found the child in very serious condition due to one gunshot wound to the chest.
The boy was rushed to the nearest fire station where he died. The sheriff’s department called it a “tragic accident”. Family and friends they were celebrating the child’s birthday and while they were playing cards they suddenly heard the shot. The checks revealed that the child had picked up the gun after it had accidentally fallen from a relative’s pocket. It is not yet understood why and how the weapon remained unattended or if the owner acted irresponsibly.
The affair follows shortly after another incident that occurred earlier this month in which another three-year-old boy, in Aloha, Oregon, found a gun in a nightstand drawer in her parents’ bedroom and accidentally shot himself in the head. Family members called for help immediately. Rushed to a local hospital, the child was pronounced dead just before midnight.
The Gun Violence Archive, a non-governmental research group that on its website catalogs all incidents of violence related to firearms in the United States, reported that in 2020 alone there were 1,792 involuntary deaths from firearms, of which well 236 had children as protagonists.
