USA: Republicans more popular than Democrats at the end of 2021 (poll)

More Americans support the Republican Party than the Democratic Party, according to a poll by the Gallup Institute, which analyzed partisan tendencies in the last quarter of 2021, on the occasion of the first anniversary of the arrival in the power of Joe Biden.

The survey indicates that while the Democrats were more supported than the Republicans throughout 2021, the curve reversed in the last months of the year

In the first quarter, the Democrats enjoyed a high approval rating (49% against 40%), in the wake of Donald Trump’s last days in power, marked by his refusal to concede the 2020 elections and the assault on his supporters on the Capitol in an attempt to prevent certification of the election.

But since then, the rating of the Republicans has gradually climbed to take over their rivals at the end of the year.

According to Gallup, this reversal is explained in particular by the eruption of the Delta variant which led to an increase in Covid cases or by the controversial withdrawal of Americans from Afghanistan after nearly 20 years of presence in the country, while Joe Biden had pledged to turn the page on the deadly Covid-19 pandemic and restore America’s international prestige.

He had also promised the American middle class to guarantee them jobs and a certain serenity in the face of globalization.

For this, he opened the floodgates: 1,900 billion dollars at the start of his mandate to revive an economy weighed down by the pandemic. Then 1.200 billion spent on decrepit infrastructure in the United States.

But Joe Biden failed to pass an $1.8 trillion social and environmental spending plan, due to lack of real Senate control.

And if the unemployment rate continues to fall, inflation soars, reaching a level not seen since 1982.
