USA: National Security Advisor Promises To “Respond To Any Attack By Iran”

Jake Sullivan, denounced Tehran’s decision to impose sanctions on fifty Americans

United States National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan on Sunday denounced Iran’s decision to impose sanctions on dozens of Americans.

He lambasted statements by officials in Tehran “as Iran’s proxy militias continue to attack US troops in the Middle East, and Iranian officials threaten to carry out terrorist operations inside the United States and elsewhere in the world. “

“Make no mistake: the United States of America will protect and defend its citizens,” added Jake Sullivan.

“This includes those who serve the United States today and those who served before. As Americans, we have our disagreements on politics. We have our disagreements on Iranian politics. But we are united in our resolve. to fight against threats and provocations. We are united in the defense of our people “.

Tehran on Saturday imposed sanctions on 51 Americans in reaction to the elimination, in 2020, of Iranian general Qassem Soleimani, in a drone attack.

Iran’s foreign ministry said the 51 individuals, many of whom are members of the US military, have been targeted for “their role in the terrorist crime committed by the United States against martyr General Qassem Soleimani”.

This measure, which allows the Iranian authorities to seize the assets held by the targeted persons, is essentially symbolic given that the Americans in question do not own such assets.

Jake Sullivan added that the United States “will work with (their) allies and partners to deter and respond to any attack led by Iran. If Iran attacks any of our nationals, including one of the 52 people named yesterday, he will face serious consequences. “

The US national security adviser visited Israel in late December and met with senior Israeli officials, including Prime Minister Naftali Bennett and Defense Minister Benny Gantz.
