US Interior Secretary Deb Haaland has tested positive for COVID-19 and is showing mild symptoms, the agency said Wednesday.
Haaland is isolated in Nevada, where on Tuesday she participated in a panel discussion in Las Vegas about clean energy production on public lands, the Interior Department said in a statement.
The official began to show symptoms of the disease on Wednesday and tested positive. She is fully vaccinated and has received two booster doses. The statement adds that she hopes to recover quickly.
Haaland has canceled plans to travel to other parts of the western United States and is working remotely.
The secretary tested negative for the virus on Monday during a visit to the White House and was not in close contact with President Joe Biden, according to the statement. Other people who may have been close to Haaland during his travels have already been notified.
