The wider availability of corona tests in the USA is causing the number of known cases in the particularly affected state of New York to rise sharply. The number of infected people rose to more than 3,000 on Thursday, according to Johns Hopkins University. That meant more than doubling compared to Tuesday. The situation is particularly serious in New York City. Mayor Bill de Blasio said on Wednesday evening that the metropolis had 1,871 cases – after 814 the previous day. The authorities assume a high number of unreported cases due to long inadequate tests.
