Ben Toma left Cluj with his family for the United States when he was not yet 8 years old, in 1987.
Having reached the age of 43, he is the Romanian with the highest political office in the USA, according to TVR: Majority Leader of the House of Representatives from the state of Arizona, second only to the Speaker of the House.
Each U.S. state has its own legislature, consisting of the House of Representatives and the Senate, the state-level counterpart to the federal Congress.
“He is in his fourth term in the state legislature, and as of 2021 he became the majority leader,” writes Andrei Muraru on Facebook.

House GOP members chose Ben Toma as Speaker of the House over Joseph Chaplik, favored by hardline conservatives.
In an interview with The Arizona Republic after the fight, Toma dismissed the notion that he was more “restraint” than Chaplik, saying it was his experience that mattered to others.
Republicans have picked their leaders for the Arizona Legislature as they face a new dynamic: a Democratic governor.
Hobbs’ victory, coupled with the split within the Republican Party, leads some Republicans to believe that next year won’t be as productive as they had hoped with Republican Kari Lake as governor.
“Partisan issues will emerge as the bills and Republicans vote on them, but it’s not clear how those bills ‘survive,'” Toma said, noting that the legislature won’t have a veto majority to overrule the rejection of Hobbs of the bills he doesn’t have. I don’t like.
