He also noted that Russia should take steps to reduce energy shortages in Ukraine by increasing gas supplies, said US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken.

According to him, in the past, Russia has used energy as a weapon, a political tool.
“We are watching very closely for any signs of a repeat of these efforts that have been made in the past,” added the secretary of state.
He stressed that Moscow has recently announced that it has enough gas supplies to meet Europe’s energy needs, working through the existing pipeline with Ukraine.
“If she does what she says it can make a real difference to alleviate the anxiety. If not, it will be a testament to our concerns about the militarization of energy, which we have seen in the past,” Blinken explained.
He stressed that if the Russian Federation tries to use energy as a weapon or undertakes further aggression against Ukraine, the United States and Germany will “take appropriate action.”
He also recalled that there is a very important joint statement by the United States and Germany, which concerns “Nord Stream 2”, energy security of Ukraine.
“We are committed to the implementation of this agreement. Chancellor Merkel has publicly stated that Germany will do everything possible to make it clear that Nord Stream 2 is not a substitute for promised transit supplies through Ukraine,” Blinken said.
In turn, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba statedand is looking forward to seeing German action on the Nord Stream 2 project, because “Germany has leverage over Russia.”
“What we see is that Russia is already using gas as a weapon. And I can only subscribe to what Secretary Blinken said: we are looking forward to see the actions taken by Germany, because Germany has leverage on Russia,” said Kuleba at a press conference following a meeting of the US-Ukraine Strategic Partnership Commission.
According to him, the commitments made in the joint statement of the United States and Germany are very clear.
